Airtel Money has announced the extension of the ‘Rudishiwa transaction fee’ offer to Paybill transactions. Airtel Money first introduced the Rudishiwa campaign in December 2023 where customers received back the transaction fees incurred on withdrawals. With the latest announcement, customers will receive back the transaction fee as airtime.

According to Airtel Money, this offer will allow customers to enjoy the convenience of mobile payments while still receiving the benefits of airtime. This is a good deal if you think about it, pay for goods and services and automatically get airtime. There is no competing offer from the likes of M-Pesa at the moment.

Those wishing to benefit from the Paybill Rudishiwa transaction fee offer when making payments can:

    • Dial *334#
    • Choose ‘Paybills and Till’
    • Select  ‘Airtel Paybills’

They can also access the service on My Airtel App.

Speaking during the company’s business update, Airtel Money Managing Director Anne Kinuthia Otieno said, “The growing potential of mobile money has been crucial in enhancing financial inclusion and economic activity. Mobile money has now become a primary mode of exchange and creating mechanisms to streamline this is crucial for societal well-being. Our main goal is to continuously give customers value, choice, affordability and convenience.  Airtel Money remains committed to providing a seamless and convenient payment experience for customers and with the ongoing investments and strategic partnerships, we intend to continue expanding our reach and giving customers affordable value as they transact daily on our platform”.

Airtel Money also revealed it currently has 3.5 million customers across the country. Its agent network has also grown tremendously the last 3 years from 18,000 to 90,000 Airtel money agents countrywide. It also has 2,500 exclusive Airtel Money branches in kenya. This is a positive trajectory for the company as the biggest criticism has always been its small agent network forcing people to stick with safaricom’s M-Pesa.
