Radisson Blu Hotel in Nairobi Upper Hill has partnered with Humming Bird Transport (HBT) to introduce 12 electric vehicles to its fleet. Humming Bird Transport is a travel management company that focuses on hospitality logistics based in Kenya.

This addition represents a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions and promoting eco-friendly practices within the hotel’s operations. This partnership is ex lusive to Radisson Blu at Upper Hill and not any of the Radisson properties in Nairobi.

Radisson Blu has installed EV charging stations on its premises. The charging infrastructure will be available to use by hotel guests later this year. We have seen a handful of companies incorporate charging infrastructure in their premises with the most recent one being NCBA bank.

Speaking about the collaboration, Russel Storey, General Manager of Radisson Blu Hotel, Nairobi Upper Hill, expressed his excitement to partner with Humming Bird Transport in a shared vision to promote sustainable mobility within the hospitality industry. “This partnership marks a defining moment in the hospitality industry. By introducing electric vehicles, we are not just reducing carbon emissions; we are re-writing the script on the hospitality industry’s environmental impact. We are also aiming to redefine the tourism experience while championing Kenya’s leadership in green transport in Africa,” he added. By adopting electric vehicles for guest transfers, Radisson Blu Hotel, Nairobi Upper Hill, has taken a proactive step in minimizing its environmental impact. Electric cars produce zero tailpipe emissions, resulting in cleaner air and a reduction in greenhouse gases. This eco-friendly approach aligns with the country’s sustainability goals, making Kenya a frontrunner in green transport in Africa.

Together, we are pioneering sustainable transportation solutions that will redefine the tourism experience and set a new precedent for environmental responsibility.”

Radisson Blu Hotel, Nairobi Upper Hill, has a longstanding commitment to sustainability through its Responsible Business initiative, which focuses on three key pillars: THINK People, THINK Community, and THINK Planet. Under these pillars, the hotel implements various initiatives such as using LED lights, installing sensor taps in washrooms, utilizing solar energy for heating shower water, recycling water, and tree planting, among others. Additionally, it sponsors underprivileged children in conjunction with SOS Children’s Village. This partnership and the introduction of electric vehicles underscore the hotel’s commitment to environmental stewardship, reinforcing its alignment with the themes of World Environment Day 2024.
