In the budget smartphone market, Samsung and Infinix are two prominent players known for offering feature-packed devices at affordable prices. The latest phone from Infinix to compete with what Samsung has to offer if the Infinix Hot 30 Play. The phone was launched in Kenya recently and is currently available in Kenya for Ksh 16,400. You can get the Infinix Hot 30 Play through Jumia and other smartphone retailers across the country.

The Samsung Galaxy A04S on the other hand is available in Kenya for Ksh 15,000 .It was unveiled back in 2022 so it does not necessarily have the latest hardware but it is still a good phone. The A04S is also slightly cheaper than the base model Hot 30 Play so that might be advantageous for Samsung.

In this comparison review, we’ll pit the Samsung Galaxy A04S against the Infinix Hot 30 Play to help you decide which device suits your needs and preferences.

    Design and Build

The Galaxy A04S sports a glass front, plastic back, and plastic frame, while the Hot 30 Play features a glass front, plastic frame, and plastic back. Both phones have dual SIM configuration and offer a comfortable grip. However, the Infinix Hot 30 Play has a larger 6.82-inch IPS LCD display compared to the 6.5-inch PLS LCD display on the Galaxy A04S. With its higher resolution and brighter peak brightness, the Hot 30 Play takes the lead in terms of display quality.

The Samsung Galaxy A04S offers a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for secure unlocking, while the Infinix Hot 30 Play features a similar side-mounted fingerprint sensor along with additional sensors such as an accelerometer, proximity sensor, and compass. The Hot 30 Play also boasts the inclusion of NFC, which can be useful for some occasions.

    Performance and Software

Under the hood, the Galaxy A04S is powered by the Exynos 850 chipset, while the Hot 30 Play boasts the MediaTek Helio G37. The Octa-core processors on both phones deliver decent performance for day-to-day tasks, but the Helio G37 on the Hot 30 Play offers a slight edge in terms of processing power and gaming performance. In terms of software, the Galaxy A04S runs on Android 12 with the One UI Core 5, while the Hot 30 Play runs on Android 13 with the XOS 12.6. Both devices provide a smooth and user-friendly experience, but the Hot 30 Play benefits from the latest Android version. For UI, One UI takes the lead compared to XOS. I feel like One UI has matured and well packaged with little bloatware.

    Camera

When it comes to photography, the Galaxy A04S features a triple rear camera setup with a 50 MP primary sensor, along with 2 MP macro and depth sensors. On the other hand, the Hot 30 Play offers a dual rear camera setup with a 16 MP primary sensor and a QVGA sensor. With the Galaxy A04S having a higher megapixel count, it does produce decent images with good color accuracy and sharpness. Both phones capture satisfactory photos in well-lit conditions, but the Galaxy A04S has an advantage when it comes to low-light photography. For selfies, the Hot 30 Play takes the lead with its 8 MP front camera compared to the 5 MP front camera on the Galaxy A04S.

    Battery

In terms of battery capacity, the Infinix Hot 30 Play outshines the Galaxy A04S with its massive 6000 mAh battery, providing exceptional battery life that easily lasts throughout the day. The Galaxy A04S offers a respectable 5000 mAh battery. However, the Hot 30 Play also wins in terms of charging speed, with support for 18W wired charging compared to the Galaxy A04S’s 15W wired charging.

    Summary

Both the Samsung Galaxy A04S and Infinix Hot 30 Play are commendable budget smartphones that cater to different preferences. If you prioritize a slightly better display, solid low-light photography, and a reputable brand, the Galaxy A04S is a suitable choice. However, if you value a larger display, better gaming performance, a bigger battery, and the latest Android version, the Infinix Hot 30 Play emerges as the winner.
