Africa Data Centres (ADC) has announced its partnership with the London Internet Exchange (LINX) for the new East African interconnection hub, LINX Nairobi. LINX Nairobi is set to become the region’s first interconnected, multi-site Internet Exchange Point (IXP), offering redundancy and resilience for networks peering there.
This strategic partnership between ADC and LINX aims to foster growth and opportunities in new markets across Africa while enhancing connectivity and bringing digital services to citizens. By becoming a full point of presence (PoP) for LINX Nairobi, ADC’s customers at the NBO1 facility in Nairobi will have direct access to the LINX Nairobi peering community via a single cross-connect, along with access to LINX’s support services and portal.
Kenya’s fast-growing fibre connectivity and well-connected submarine cable network, with pathways to Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, position it uniquely to serve the entire East Africa region. LINX Nairobi aims to meet the region’s increasing demand for low latency, high-speed, improved interconnectivity. It will not only serve local networks but also attract international Internet providers and hyperscalers.
Nurani Nimpuno, Head of Global Engagement for LINX, emphasizes that LINX Nairobi will serve as a hub for Kenya and the entire East Africa region. The goal is to create a strong digital ecosystem, encouraging traffic to stay local while facilitating peering arrangements between networks connected to LINX Nairobi.
Tesh Durvasula, CEO of Africa Data Centres, states that the addition of LINX’s PoP in the NBO1 facility will provide customers with a greater variety of interconnection options. This partnership reflects the company’s growth and momentum, strengthening its ecosystem and enhancing interconnection and peering options.
Durvasula highlights the importance of an effective interconnection strategy, particularly for businesses using hybrid models of private and public clouds. The PoP offered by LINX allows Africa Data Centres to help businesses across Africa connect to the rest of the world while keeping their data within their own borders, ensuring efficient workload distribution and a resilient network.
