Most times, if your SIM card is not active for a certain period of time, it is normally deactivated. This is the case for Safaricom subscribers but there is an option to keep your phone number active for up to 2 years even when you are not using it.
Daima service is the name Safaricom has given to this service that lets you keep your line active when you are not using it. This can be when you travel abroad or any other situation when you are not using your phone number for an extended period of time.
If your line is deactivated, it may be available for purchase by another subscriber after sometime. You may then lose the number to someone else.
Safaricom Daima Service
Safaricom Daima Service is targeting customers who want to keep their lines active for a period of 6 months to 2 years without the need to top up. The company says this service is perfect for those:
- Travelling or living abroad for long periods
- Away for school
- Away at police/army training
- Having a change of ownership of line situation e.g., due to loss of a loved one
- In need of car tracking services
- In possession of multiple lines that they wish to keep active.
How to activate Safaricom Daima service
You have to be a Safaricom Prepay customer
- Dial *100#
- Select ‘My Account’ (option 4)
- Select ‘Daima – keep line active’ (Option 9)
- Activate and choose how long you want the line to stay active.
You can keep your line active for 6 months, 12 months or 24 months and pay Ksh 200, 500 and 100 respectively.
You can pay using your Airtime or M-Pesa.
