If you are looking for a new smartphone under Ksh 10,000, this post can help you get to that decision. There are quite a number of smartphones available and this list tries to narrow down the choices you have.

I have narrowed down the list to include smartphones released in 2020 or 2021 as no one wants a very old phone that they will have no use of in the coming year. I have also tried to include phones with at least 2GB of RAM if applicable.

    Here are the phones.

    Xiaomi Redmi 9A

    Xiaomi Redmi Note 9A
    Xiaomi Redmi Note 9A

The Xiaomi Redmi 9A tops the list as it is a good and reliable smartphone under ksh 10,000.The Xiaomi Redmi 9A is an entry level device as you can tell from its price. It is the successor to the Redmi 8A that you can still get in Kenya if you want one.

The Xiaomi Redmi 9A is available on Jumia for Ksh 9,500. It almost missed it from this list but had to be included as you can see from the specifications below. Xiaomi has always built solid smartphones and the Redmi 9A is one of them.

Display: 6.53 inches IPS LCD  display with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels
    Processor:  MediaTek Helio G25
    RAM: 2/3/4GB
Storage: 32/64/128 GB internal storage; expandable
Cameras: 13 MP at the back, 5 MP front-facing camera
    SIM: dual SIM
    Battery: 5.000 mAh battery
    Android:  Android 10.0; MIUI 12

    The Itel P37

The itel A37 is one of the latest from the company having been launched earlier this year. The phone is available on Jumia for Ksh 8,900. We rarely get to see itel on such lists but the P37 has finally made it.

Diamond Platinumz is the new brand ambassador for itel Mobile and one of the faces of the P37. With this partnership, the P37 will definitely fly off the shelves but is it a good phone? Find out from the specs listed below.

Display: 6.5 inches IPS LCD  display with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels
    Processor: UniSoC Spreadtrum SC7731E
    RAM: 2 GB
Storage: 32 GB internal storage; expandable
    Cameras: 8 MP + 0.3MP at the back, 8 MP front-facing camera
    SIM: dual SIM
    Battery: 5.000 mAh battery
    Android:  Android 10.0 (Go Edition)

    Tecno Spark 6 Go

The Tecno Spark 6 Go is another smartphone that fits well in this list. The phone is available in Kenya starting from Ksh 9,000 which is fair enough if you ask me. As you have probably guessed already, this is an Android Go device that comes with software tweaked to work well with the entry-level hardware this phone comes with.

The Tecno Spark 6 Go is part of the bigger Spark 6 family from last year. Below is a look at its key specifications.

Display: 6.52 inches IPS LCD  display with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels

Android: Android 10 (Go edition), HIOS 6.2

    Realme C11

    realme C11

Realme is one of the latest smartphone brands to launch its devices in Kenya. This company has really tried to capture the key market segments and the realme C11 is just part of that.

The realme C11 fall right into this segment as it is retailing for Ksh 9,999 on Jumia. This is right at the border and having used this phone, it is really worth it. Below are its specifications.

Display: 6.5 inches IPS LCD  display with a resolution of 720 x 1560 pixels
    Processor: MediaTek Helio G35
    RAM: 2 GB
Storage: 32 GB internal storage; expandable

    Infinix Smart HD 2021

The Infinix Smart HD 2021 in Kenya is available starting from Ksh 8,600. This is one of the latest entry level devices from Infinix to launch in Kenya and with that it had to make it to this list. We do not see Infinix commit huge marketing budgets to market its entry level devices but surprisingly they normally see well.

Have a look at the Infinix Smart HD specifications below.

Display: 6.1 inches IPS LCD  display with a resolution of 720 x 1560 pixels
    Processor: Mediatek Helio A20
    RAM: 2 GB
Storage: 32 GB internal storage; expandable
Cameras: 8MP at the back, 5 MP front-facing camera

Thanks for the breakdown, the Xiaomi Redmi 9A looks like a better contender as compared to the other four in terms of Camera, Ram and Storage combination.
