The Tecno Spark 7p Vs vivo Y20

If You are looking for a new smartphone within the Ksh 15,000 price range, you do have a wide selection to choose from including the new Tecno Spark 7p, the vivo Y20, Realme C15, Galaxy A02s just to name a few. In this post, we will be looking at the Spark 7p and the vivo Y20.

The Tecno Spark 7p was unveiled in Kenya a few weeks back and is available in stores for Ksh 15,000.  This is the latest in the Tecno Spark series and is quite a good refresh for 2021. I have been using this phone for a while and so far I love it.

The vivo Y20 on the other hand was unveiled in Kenya late last year and is currently available right around the same price. Being a few months older than the Spark 7p, some people may overlook the vivo Y20 and skip it. This is what we will try and cover in this post to help you decide if a 2020 smartphone is still worth getting or the Spark7p which is a 2021 smartphone is much better.

The two phones share quite a number of specifications but there are some key differences between them.

Display Size

The Tecno Spark 7p comes with a 6.8-inch display that is quite a good size and pretty much the normal size we expect on smartphones these days. The Y20 on the other hand comes with a slightly smaller 6.51-inch display which is not that small compared to the Spark 7p.

The display resolution on both devices the same with the Spark 7p having 720 x 1640 pixels while the Y20 having 720 x 1600 pixels. With almost the same size and resolution, the one you end up choosing will be up to you. The Spark 7p is slightly bigger and might be the right choice if you really want that extra size.

A bigger display is perfect for media consumption or even gaming. If this sounds like something you do on your phone, then the Spark 7p may be the one for you.

The Spark 7p’s display has a 90Hz refresh rate which isn’t supported on the Y20. A 90Hz display is always much better as it provides a smoother experience that anyone would appreciate.

Performance

Performance is a key component for any smartphone. The Tecno Spark 7p is powered by the 2GHz MediaTek Helio G70 processor that has been paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage space. This is quite a decent combination for a smartphone within this price range and should offer decent performance.

The vivo Y20 on the other hand is powered by the 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 processor that has been paired with 6GB of RAM for the variant within this price range. There are 3 and 4GB variants available for slightly less than the 6GB variant.

The Helio G70 processor offers slightly better gaming and performance but is much harder on the battery according to benchmark tests.

Cameras

The Tecno Spark 7p has a 16MP main sensor at the back. This is part of the triple camera setup with the others being a 2MP and an AI lens. The 16MP main sensor takes some great shots and for the few shots I have taken with this phone, I have been very impressed. For selfies, it has an 8MP sensor that also takes some good shots.

The vivo Y20 on the other hand has comes with an AI Triple macro camera setup featuring a 13MP primary camera with a 2MP macro and a 2MP bokeh cameras. An 8MP selfie camera sits at the front and this should provide decent shots that you will have no rouble sharing on social media.
