Apple has updated its high-end iPad Pro for 2021 with new features. This time, the company is provided a more significant update from the previous iPad, with more exciting features, unlike the 2020 iPad Pro to its predecessor.

The 2020 iPad Pro update included the new Magic keyboard, a $299 accessory, and a Lidar sensor for improved camera performance. Enter the 2021 iPad Pro; there are even more exciting features.

The most exciting of all is the inclusion of Apple’s in-house M1 chip. This same processor runs the show in Apple’s 2020 M1 MacBook Pro and Air, Mac mini, and even the latest iMac, announced at the Spring Loaded event.

It boasts an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU. Apple says the new M1 chip will deliver 50% CPU and 40% GPU improvement compared to the A12Z processor powering the 2020 iPad Pro lineup. While the 2020 iPad Pro was fast as is, improved performance is always welcome.

The 2021 M1 iPad Pro lineup is available in two sizes; 11- and 12.9-inches. The new 12.9-inch iPad Pro features a Liquid Retina XDR display based on the rumored Mini LED display technology.

The new display technology improves on different faucets. It includes better dynamic range, color accuracy, contrast, and higher peak brightness(1600nits). In fact, the company claims the new12.9-inch iPad Pro should offer color accuracy, brightness, and contrast that are on par with the premium Pro XDR panel.

Apple’s 2021 iPad Pro includes up to 2TB of storage and up to 16GB of RAM. The duo also includes 5G support, a first for Apple’s tablets. Although 5G is yet to go universal, adding support as early as now future proofs the new tablets.

The iPad Pro also supports Thunderbolt, which uses the same port as USB Type C but with faster data transfer speeds to and from an external storage drive. Thunderbolt also brings additional features like the ability to connect high-res external displays (including the Pro Display XDR at 6K) and expansion docks.

Apple has also revamped the front-facing camera on the iPad Pro as well. There’s a new 12MP ultra-wide camera. The position has been shifted from the top – in portrait – to the side, now in landscape position. Center Stage, a new feature included, will ensure you always remain at the center of the frame while video calling. In a group call, the feature zooms out to ensure everyone fits well inside the frame, Apple said.

The new iPad Pro lineup works with the Magic Keyboard, now available in white color, and runs iPadOS 14.5.

11- and 12.9-inch iPad Pro Availability and Price

The duo goes on preorder starting April 30 but will hit the shelves in the second half of May. The 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro cost $799(~KES 86,500), and $1,099(~KES ) respectively (Wi-Fi model). The cellular models cost $999(~KES 108,000) and $1299(~KES 140, 500), respectively.

You can choose between 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB storage configurations and two colors – space gray and silver.
