Mobile gaming is rapidly growing, even letting people play games for real money and ASUS has been one of those dedicated companies pushing out gaming smartphones through its  ROG (Republic of Gamers) branding. The new device in the series, the ASUS ROG Phone 5, is here and, oh boy, does it impress! And it doesn’t stop at the exterior – it packs significant power under the hood as well.

The ASUS ROG Phone 5’s inclusion of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 flagship chipset, is just part of the basics. This phone rocks a 6.78-inch Full HD+ AMOLED panel with a high 144Hz refresh rate and 300Hz touch sampling rate, one of the highest touch response times on a smartphone to date.

Paired with the 5nm chipset is 16GB of snappy LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. And for even more power on the battlefield, the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate has 18GB of RAM and 512GB of onboard storage.

A 6,000mAh battery powers both variants with 65W HyperCharge fast charging. For better cooling while playing high-intense games, ASUS has improved the device’s cooling system courtesy of its upgraded GameCool 5 system.

AirTrigger 5 game controls have been upgraded as well, and the new model is armed with touch sensors on the rear acting as L2 and R2 trigger buttons, similar to those found on console controllers. These L2/R2 trigger functions work with existing ultrasonic sensors, one of the most beloved features, plus motion controls for better game control.

Sound is as essential in gaming as well, and the company has upgraded the stereo sound system with symmetrical 7-magnet dual speakers for better balance. A 3.5mm headphone jack comes in handy alongside a hi-fi-grade ESS DAC for lossless audio processing.

In addition to that, ROG Phone 5 ships with a three-camera array system on the back. Sony’s flagship IMX686 64MP primary wide-angle camera leads the trio, followed by a 13 MP ultrawide camera and a macro camera.

ASUS ROG Phone price starts at €799(~Ksh 104,000) while the flagship Ultimate model costs €1,299(~Ksh 170,00). However, the duo will not be available immediately; you’ll have to hold on until May.
