The PS5 console launch has been riddled with stock shortages, which are not expected to end anytime soon. The high demand for PS5 has to lead to ridiculous pricing on the market.
The company now reveals that the launch of the PS5 has been their biggest console launch ever.
“We want to thank gamers everywhere for making the PS5 launch our biggest console launch ever,” PlayStation says.
PS5’s demand is novel, and the company took it on Twitter to reassure its community that more inventory will be available before the year winds down. Sony officially launched the PS5 on 12th November, but it had opened pre-orders before the date.
From the pre-order sales, there were early indications that the demand for the PS5 was huge. Speaking at an interview in October, Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, revealed they had sold many consoles in the first 12 hours of the pre-order window than they did with the PS4 in the first 12 weeks.
Well, much had changed since 2013 when the company unveiled the PS4. Currently, the gaming industry is enjoying good times as more people resort to gaming to escape the world’s realities.
Like its competitor, the Xbox Series S/X consoles are also having stock issues due to high demand. Last week Xbox’s Chief Financial Officer, Tim Stuart, said the company expects to fully satisfy the current demand from at least April next year.
Microsoft plans to ramp up its supplies in the next 4, 5, 6 months – and that’s when Stuart said he expects they will begin to meet the current demand profile.
