HMD Global has finally announced that the Nokia 5.3 5G will be coming to Kenya. This phone was unveiled to a global audience back in March and is yet to ship to any customers in any country.
If you are in Kenya and have been waiting for this phone, you should expect to see it soon and it can be yours if you are willing to spend Ksh 69,000. Those who are among the first to buy it will also get the Nokia Power Earbuds for free.
The Nokia 5.3 support 5G connectivity but there has not been any 5G roll out in Kenya as of now. I do not know of any concrete plans to roll out the same before the end of the year so HMD may just want to have a device ready for when that happens. Since Nokia is in the network business, HMD probably knows something about 5G roll out that we don’t know.
Launching a 5G capable device is about future proofing its line-up and when that is available at a later day, those who buy it will not be required to buy any new phone to take advantage of that.
