Facebook is often one of the easiest options to use when signing up to an app or even a service. You don’t need to tire yourself setting a password, and other information is filled on your behalf hassle-free.

With so much simplicity, it also presents a security challenge. You can’t know when your Facebook credentials have been used to login to an app – unless you check the apps you’ve connected to manually. The company has today launched a new feature that will notify you when your credentials are used to login to an app.

The new feature will help Facebook users stay in the know when someone uses the account for a third-party app or service and also this acts as an added layer of security on your account.

The notifications will be sent to you via both email and also through the Facebook app – which turns out to be the most convenient option, as most of us never access our emails that often.

Included in the notification, the company will provide all the details shared to that particular app which could consist of your public Facebook name, profile photo, email address, your friends’ list, and even your Page likes.

Login Notifications will only be triggered when you use your Facebook account to login into a third-party app, and when you reuse your credentials after the app’s access to your information has expired.

“We understand there are sensitivities to people’s information privacy and related information and are taking active steps to honor and improve this in our products,” said the company in a statement.

Facebook says they will also continue testing “additional user control features in early 2020.”
