MediaTek unveiled its Dimensity line of chipsets not so long ago. With this new chipset series, the focus was all on 5G. Apart from that, Dimensity will help the company target the high-end smartphone market now to compete with the likes of Qualcomm and its flagship Snapdragon 800 chipset series.

The first chip in line was the Dimensity 1000 SoC, a 5G-integrated SoC. MediaTek now says that it will launch several chipsets under this series that will offer 5G support on both SIM cards simultaneously.

According to Kuldeep Malik, MediaTek’s Corporate Sales and Business Development for the Indian market, the company plans to launch several chipsets that will be the powerhouse of low-end to flagship-class smartphones.

The company did miss out big on 4G adoption, that time only offering 4G support on a single SIM for most of its chipsets. For 5G, MediaTek says they will offer several chipsets with dual-5G support, but still not on the entire series.

For a quick primer, Dimensity 1000 is fabricated from the 7nm fabrication process and is integrated with a 5G modem.

Dimensity 1000 also features a Sub-6GHz modem capable of Carrier Aggregation and can deliver up to 4.7Gbps performance.

That is different from the Snapdragon 865 since it does come with an integrated modem, a move that has spurred different reactions from the consumers on the future of 2020 flagship devices.

Lacking an integrated modem on the Snapdragon 865 chipset is clearly a bummer, but since most premium phones will depend on it to run the show, it may force high-end consumers to bare with Qualcomm’s move this time. Or, the iPhone will clearly be an alternative at this point.
