Xiaomi acquired Meitu phones last year, and since the acquisition, the company had not taken advantage of their new hardware. Yesterday Xiaomi revealed full details on their plans with their Meitu acquisition.

In the same line, Xiaomi has announced their new range of devices dubbed Mi CC series. Mi-CC Series is in celebration with Xiaomi’s eighth Anniversary. Xiaomi CC series was introduced by Lei Jun, Xiaomi CEO who explained that CC has a range of meanings including Colorful and Creative, camera+camera and even Chic and Cool. The Mi CC Series will feature a Dual Camera setup according to Xiaomi.

The first device will be dubbed CC9- the 9 commemorating the Anniversary. For Xiaomi, Mi CC series will be consolidated under Xiaomi’s Mi brand which has two flagships, Mi and Mi MIX. The first in line will come in two variants, CC9 and CC9e – the low-end model. Since Meitu’s hardware business highly focused on camera’s Xiaomi is adopting a similar focus in the Mi CC Series.

In a statement at the announcement, Lei Jun stated the series would be “designed to be a flagship for photography and selfies with both front and back cameras” majorly targeting the young generation with the cool camera and design features. Xiaomi will utilize Xiaomi x Meitu AI Beauty Lab, “the industry-leading algorithm.”

With the CC-Series the 4th largest brand in the world Xiaomi hopes to expand its reach in the smartphone industry. “Being simple, splendid, sincere and straightforward, I believe Mi CC will be a good choice for all young people,” Lei said. For now, we can’t tell its availability in Kenya, but the Mi CC Series will first hit the Chinese market as most Xiaomi devices do then global announcement later.
