Correction: In the unboxing video, I said that back is made of plastic, this is not the case as the back cover is made of glass.

Not so long ago, the Huawei P30 Lite was officially unveiled in Kenya. It was launched together with the more expensive P30 and P30 Pro smartphones that you can get on Jumia right now. In this post, I will be unboxing the Huawei P30 Lite and let you know what you should expect and my first impressions.

The Huawei P30 Lite is the cheapest of the three and is available in retail stores in Kenya for as low as Ksh 29,899. At this price, the phone will be competing with the new OPPO F11, the Xiaomi Pocophone F1 and some of the new Samsung smartphones. With the many devices Huawei has launched in the country recently, I was curious to see if the P30 Lite lives up to expectations and if it is a phone worth looking at.

    First Impressions

When you take the Huawei P30 Lite out of the box for the first time, you will be impressed with the build quality of the phone. It feels well built and does not feel bulky in any way. It comfortably fits in my hands and being very light, I find it easy and convenient to carry around.

I got the white version of the Huawei P30 Lite and this looks really good, better than the blue one in my opinion. At the back is where we get the three-camera setup made up of a 24MP main camera, 8MP wide angle lens and a 2MP depth sensor. Also at the back is where the fingerprint sensor sits. It is easy to setup and is very fast. If you do not want to use the fingerprint sensor, you can use Face unlock which this phone supports that.

The Huawei P30 Lite looks different from other devices from Huawei and most people I have shown the phone to did not believe it’s available for only Ksh 30,000. It is probably the best looking smartphone within this price range and so far I am impressed. With so many smartphones sharing the same features, having one with a different design and build quality is important to differentiate it from the rest on the market.

Flipping the phone to the front, you get to meet the 6.15-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1080 x 2312 pixels. This display is really good, gets very bright and is perfect for using outdoors. It is also good for media consumption as it has accurate colour reproduction.

For performance, I have had this phone for a very short time but it has not disappointed. It is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 710 processor that is paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage space. So far the experience has been good but I will share more on that in the full review.

As I have mentioned above, I am working on the full review that will be up very soon.
