With this acquisition, the Motorola name will disappear and all future devices from the company will trade under the ‘Moto’ brand. Confirming this, Lenovo said, “Motorola Mobility continues to exist as a Lenovo company and is the engineering and design engine for all of our mobile products. However, for our product branding we will utilize a dual brand strategy across smartphone and wearables going forward using Moto and Vibe globally. ‘Motorola’ hasn’t been used on our products since the launch of the original Moto X in 2013.”

The Moto brand will be used by high end devices while the Vibe branding will be used with budget devices. The high end devices that will come from the company will be branded, Moto by Lenovo. The Motorola name will not disappear immediately and we will still see it around. The company said, “We’ll slowly phase out Motorola and focus on Moto.”

Motorola has been a key player in the smartphone market and the name stands for a lot in the market and will truly be missed. Even with its history, Motorola was not that successful with smartphones and faced lot of competition as it tried to focus mostly on developed markets where competition was quite tough. Let’s just hope that the new devices from Lenovo really stand out on the market.
