BlackBerry Is On Schedule to Turn a Profit After Years of Loss Making

BlackBerry has been struggling to make money of its devices for years now with no success. The company has had it rough as Android continued to grow in popularity in markets previously dominated by BlackBerry.

The decline in profits forced BlackBerry to release its first Android powered smartphone, the BlackBerry a few months ago. Well, it seems that the Priv is being received well by consumers and may just help BlackBerry return to its profit making past. This is deduced from the Q3 financial results that the company published a few days ago showing a shrink in losses and a rise in stocks.

BlackBerry has been able to achieve these positive results through strategic marketing and investment in hardware and software sales in addition to the release of its first Android device, the Priv.

During Q3 of 2015, revenue from the sale of its devices rose from $201 to $214 Million. This is mostly attributed to the BlackBerry Priv that was seen as the right hit by most consumers and analysts alike. Going forward, I expect BlackBerry to see an even bigger growth if it decides to embrace Android fully.

John Chen, BlackBerry’s Chief Executive is looking at a profitable year ahead especially with the positive reception of the Priv. He had previously said, “We’re planning on other Android phones, but it all hinges on how we do with the Priv.”

If the Priv is not successful, BlackBerry may pull out of the smartphone market all together, Mr Chen went ahead to say, “I’ve said that if we cannot make money we’re going to get out of the phone business, and I mean hardware. We have tons of software that absolutely could run, not only on Android phones, but Apple and Windows phones too … We will remain in the phone business one way or the other.”
