Airtel Kenya and Standard Chartered Bank today reiterated their commitment to offer free access to mobile banking to their customers through Airtel Money. The partnership which was first launched in 2009 when Airtel began mobile money services has seen Airtel customers who bank with Standard Chartered Bank enjoy seamless access to their bank accounts.

In a meeting held at the Standard Chartered Bank headquarters in Nairobi, the two organizations’  management teams discussed  the existing partnership that allows Airtel Money customers who are also Standard Chartered Bank Account holders to access mobile banking services as well as other areas of partnership affordably and conveniently through the digital platform. The two companies also  agreed to upgrade merchant sweep, a service that enables vendors to collect their funds through Airtel money daily. This will enable Airtel Money customers settle their bills such as KPLC, DSTV and Nairobi water faster.

Mobile banking is a platform where customers can access banking services such as account balances, funds transfer and bill payments to and from the mobile phones. Airtel Money users who are also Standard Chartered Bank clients are now able  to transfer money to and from their bank account in a convenient, secure and affordable way.

In a statement, Airtel Kenya CEO Adil El Youssefi said: “Airtel is proud to strategically align with a reputable institution such as Standard Chartered in this initiative which we continue to push innovation barriers. This partnership ensures that Airtel Money customers conduct banking services with Standard Chartered Bank without having to worry about the associated costs of physically visiting a banking hall.”

Speaking during the occasion Mr. Lamin Manjang, CEO Standard Chartered Bank said: “We are committed to partnerships that enable us to provide superior client experience across our  channels. We shall endeavour to strengthen our online and mobile banking propositions to increase convenience for our clients.”

Other areas of collaboration that were discussed included community collaboration in education, entrepreneurship and Health.
