Facebook Is Testing a Real-Time Comments Feature to Tell You When Your Friends Are Typing a Comment

Yesterday, Facebook confirmed that it is working on a feature that will allow you to see the friends who are writing comments. This is the same feature as you currently have on WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger or Google Chat where you see when someone is typing. Facebook wants to bring it to the comment section of posts on its site.

Before Facebook officially confirmed this feature, some users had spotted the “A friend is writing a comment” on their news feeds last month. It seems that Facebook was actively testing this feature and the company might be ready to roll it out to the general public.

Facebook real-time comments

In a statement, Facebook said “We’ve heard from people that they want their experience on Facebook to reflect the real time conversations they have. So we are testing adding a line above the comment box of a post that indicates when a friend is typing. This is to help people have real-time conversations with friends and family.”

As to when the feature will roll out to the public, Facebook did not say anything about that but my guess is that we will see this feature during the first quarter of 2016.
