Facebook has been focused on getting as many people online as possible. With the high costs of data especially in developing nations, this has become a challenge. Facebook knows this and that is why the company has announced that users on its site will be able to load news feeds on the slowest connection and even comment on posts when they do not have an active network connection.

This feature makes Facebook very appealing especially for those who have internet connection problems, particularly those in developing nations. Up until now, offline likes and shares have been possible and Facebook has decided to expand that further.

In a statement, the company said, “Our mission with News Feed is to connect people with the stories that matter most to them, but if people’s News Feeds aren’t loading because of poor internet connection, we can’t show them the most relevant stories. People are coming online at a staggering rate in emerging markets and, in most cases, are doing so on mobile via 2G connections. To improve the Facebook experience so it works seamlessly and quickly for people in all parts of the world, we’re focused on designing News Feed to operate well regardless of device or network connection.”

The company went ahead to say, “As a next step, today we are announcing ways to more efficiently show you relevant stories in your News Feed when you are on particularly slow internet connections. You can also now compose comments on posts when you are offline. The comments will appear to your friends when you next get a good internet connection.”

This feature allows you to continue using Facebook even when you don’t have an active network connection and have that reflect on Facebook as soon as you get connected to the internet.
