A few years ago, BlackBerry was a big player in the Smartphone world and then something happened along the way. The company relaxed a little bit and for sometime could not compete with other manufacturers such as Samsung, Nokia, Apple among others. The company drifted away ever since and never regained its lost glory.

The company recently announced its latest addition, the BlackBerry passport which will serve as its main flagship this year. This new Smartphone was launched this past Wednesday and the demand seems to be very high according to the company’s CEO John Chen.

On Friday, Mr. Chen said that the company had already sold over 200,000 BlackBerry Passport units. The company is selling the BlackBerry passport through Amazon and its own website and it seems that demand is greater than supply as the units are currently sold out on both Amazon and BlackBerry’s own website. The BlackBerry Passport is selling at $600 (approximately Kshs. 54,000).

The BlackBerry Passport is a pretty impressive device in terms of specs having company’s famous QWERTY keyboard, a 4.5 inch square display screen with a resolution of 1440 x 1440 pixels. It will also have a Snapdragon 800 quad core processor that tops 2.26 GHz.
