It seems like every flagship Smartphone has to get a mini version to complete the set. This has been going on for a while for Samsung, HTC and LG and Oppo is just about to join the club. The company’s current flagship is the Oppo Find 7 that has the 50 MP rotating camera.

Before the Find 7, the company had the Oppo N1 that was unveiled last year but did not get a mini version till now. The Oppo N1 mini is clearly a scaled down version on the 5.9 inch N1. One wonders why Oppo waited for almost a year to unveil the mini and will this device be too little too late (see what i did there). Let’s just hope that is not the case.

Oppo did not reveal much about this device when it shared the info on its official Facebook page. We are left to speculate what hardware specs it will have. All we know is the Oppo N1 mini will have a “revolutionary 24 Mega Pixels Ultra HD camera.” Not exactly 24MP as you might think but it’s rather a13MP camera combined with a few tricks to make it 24MP. Oppo is known for such tricks and that is what helped the Find 7 get to the 50MP capacity.

Back to the Oppo N1 mini, the camera will be a rotating one that will allow you to use the same sensor for both the front facing and rear shots. The 24 MP capacity is arrived at by the upsampling mode, the same technique used on the Find 7.

Some extra features we currently know about the Oppo N1 mini include a 5 inch screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels translating to 294ppi pixel density. Under the hood will be a MediaTek octa-core with 1GB of RAM and a 2140mAh battery. Price and global availability are a mystery at this time.
