Youth Employability And Entrepreneurship Gets A Boost With The Launch Of #tukoworks

Kenya’s unemployment figures are very high if you ask anyone who has lived here for some time. According to UNDP out of the 80 percent of Kenya’s 2.3 million unemployed comprises of young people between 15 and 34 years of age. The Kenyan education system has been blamed for being part of the problem as it does not equip the students who go through it with the right practical knowledge of job creation and entrepreneurship.

This is exactly what led the Homeboyz Foundation to partner up with Microsoft to unveil Tuko Works (www.tukoworks.co.ke/ ). Tuko Works is a national one-stop shop on Employability and Entrepreneurship that seeks to bridge the gap for job seekers, aspiring entrepreneurs and school leavers by providing a network of accessible opportunities from various openings as well as necessary training on how to start ones enterprise.

According to Microsoft Kenya Country Manager Kunle Awosika, “The youth can go into the portal and get step by step guidance on how to get funding from the Youth Fund, same applies to women and the Women fund.”

The main aim of this initiative is to skill up the young people to meet all the criteria that employers are looking for when hiring. It will also provide the start-up knowledge who those who want to start their own businesses. The website will provide all the resources, training and career guidance services to the young people.
