Nokia Unveils the Asha 501

Of late, Nokia has become synonymous with Windows Phone 8. The company is currently the biggest contributor to the Windows Phone platform with their Lumia branded devices.

Even with such success, with the Lumia smartphones, the company hopes to conquer other segments of the mobile phone market with their affordable smartphones such as the Nokia 105 that was unveiled recently. The company continued with this trend when it unveiled the Nokia Asha 501 earlier today in India.

The Asha 501 comes as the first device to spot the new Asha platform that is as a result of a smartphone acquisition Nokia made a while back. The Nokia Asha 501 is quite affordable as it is only made of two parts that not only make it durable, but also ensure its price is kept low.

Even though the Asha 501 does not have mind-blowing specs, it still has some features that set it apart from its other devices in its league. The Asha 501 has a 3-inch capacitive touch screen with 133ppi that supports Multitouch capabilities. It supports Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 3.0 and MicroUSB 2.0. You can also wake up the phone by double tapping it.

A 3.2 Megapixel fixed-focus rear facing camera comes standard with the Asha 501.

The Asha 501 comes in two variants, the dual sim one and the single sim variant.

The device will be available as from June this year in over 90 countries.
