First Smartphone Running Firefox OS to Go On Sale This Week

When Firefox announced that it had plans to launch its own Mobile operating system, many people were skeptical and did not believe the OS will survive the competitive mobile OS market. Even with such skepticism, the launch of the Firefox OS saw a number of mobile manufacturers expressing interest in launching devices running this OS.

ZTE was the first company rumored to be working on a smartphone running Firefox OS. Sony has also expressed interest in the Firefox OS ecosystem indicating that the first Sony smartphone running Firefox OS will hit the markets in 2014.

The first bunch of smartphones running on Firefox OS will be available for worldwide preorder this week according to TheNext Web.  The first two smartphones that are available for preorder include the Keon and Peak. According to the report, global shipping of the devices will then begin by the end of this week.

As for pricing, the Keon will retail for $118 while the peak goes for $194. The peak is clearly the superior device here with a faster processor, a bigger screen and a much better camera when compared to the Keon.
