Google+ has decided to do some serious nice changes on their product. The still not well performing social media network has allowed the use of animated profile pictures for their users. Use of animation which is not available on Facebook and was recently banned on twitter is now available on Google+.

Although Google+ is not as famous as some of its competitors such as Facebook and Twitter, Google has been trying to up its game especially in geographical areas where it is yet to pick up as it should. This has seen it undergo a series of changes including, the latest where a new Google+ app for Android & IPhone which delivers more photo editing & content sharing options was introduced a few days ago. Before that, they had added a search filter for GIFs (Animated pictures) and transparent images. This has been followed closely with their introduction of animations onto their service.

When introducing the new development, software engineer Matt Steiner said Google+, Google’s social network, will display the animation when a member’s profile is viewed from a desktop computer or a mobile device. “You can now use an animated gif for your profile photo!  It will animate on the profile page on both desktop and mobile,” Steiner said in a post on his Google+ page. This was followed by him posting an animated photo of himself. To ensure that their users are not stuck trying to use the new service, Google+ is providing help on even making animated pictures of oneself.

The GIFs, (un)fortunately, only move in full profile view. Google has decided that its users will only see the animation in full profile view and not in the friend listings.
