Facebook Status Updates To Include Emoticons

Sometime last week, Facebook revealed that it was carrying out “a really small test” that would allow users to not only update their status but also express how they were really feeling at that moment by using emoticons.

If Facebook implements this new update, users can go beyond simply updating their status and start expressing themselves with the use of emoticons in their updates. We have seen some of the screenshots that Facebook provided to the press and it is clear that in the new update, when a Facebook user clicks on his/her status update box, they will see a new question asking, “What are you doing.” When a user clicks on that box, a number of options such as “feeling,” “watching,” “reading,” “drinking,” or “eating” will be displayed. After a selection of one of the options, the user will then have to provide more detail about it.

Facebook has not rolled out this new update to all users and it has said that this is a really small test that they are carrying out.

Below is a screenshot of the new update that they are working on, the screenshot was provided to CNET by Facebook.
