Safaricom Unveils The Intel Powered Smartphone- YOLO

A few days ago, we reported that Safaricom was working with Intel to introduce Africa’s first smartphone powered by Intel. The launch of this smartphone is part of the strategy by Intel to spread its wings to the Mobile industry in Africa. Well it looks like Safaricom has finally unveiled the device, the Yolo smartphone, which will retail at Kshs 11,000 and you will get 500MB of data with every purchase.

The device packs Intel’s latest CPU, the Lexington chip that was announced recently at the Consumer Electronic Show. The device has 512MB of RAM with 4GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 32GB through the microSD card slot. The Z2420 Atom processor can reach speeds of up to 1.2GHz.

The Yolo smartphone will have a 3.5-inch display screen with a resolution of 480 x 320 Pixel; the screen is scratch resistant according to a review by Techweez. The camera of this device is also impressive, 5-megapixel to be exact, and can record 1080p HD video.  

The Yolo smartphone supports HSPA+ network connectivity that can get you speeds of up to 21Mbps. A few other connectivity options supported by the device include, Bluetooth 2.1, Micro USB 2.0, GPS and Wi-Fi.

The Yolo smartphone runs on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.
