Samsung Electronics East Africa has officially unveiled two new entry level smartphones, the Galaxy J1 mini and J3 (2016), in Kenya. Samsung has been disappointing us with its entry level devices of late as competition from Chinese manufacturers drive consumers to demand better specs from their devices.
Support for 4G LTE is one of the main features that Samsung has added to these devices as it tries to bring this technology to its entry level devices. The company hopes that this and other features will help attract those customers who are currently using feature phone.
Jung Hyun Park, Vice President and Managing Director of Samsung Electronics East Africa said, ‘’We understand the dynamics of the emerging and developing markets, where we have to create a balance between the entry level and flagship models. A look at the statistics from the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) indicates that more Kenyans are accessing internet through their mobile phones. And as a manufacturer, we would like to play a role in encouraging consumers on feature phones to take the jump to smartphones affordably.”
