A few years ago, Samsung dominated the low end market segment with its many entry level smartphones. Ever since then, the company has faced stiffed competition from new players who have eaten up its market share. The company has now remained with the Galaxy J1 which sells a good number of units. Sometime last year this was one of the bestselling smartphones in the Kenya.
With the success of the Galaxy J1, Samsung has today announced an even smaller (and hopefully affordable) version of this smartphone, the Galaxy J1 Mini. This smartphone was announced today in the Philippines and targets the ultra-low end market segment. It is still not clear if this phone is meant for the Philippines only or if it will be available in other markets. Probably its success in the Philippines will determine this.
Samsung is very good at segmenting its devices and releasing certain devices for specific markets and even recently launched the Galaxy J1 Nxt in Bangladesh. The Galaxy J1 Nxt is similar to the Galaxy J1 Mini and is available in Bangladesh only.
From the specs, the Galaxy J1 Mini is a true ultra-low end smartphone with nothing interesting going on when you compare it to some of the new entry level smartphones offered by some of the new players such as Infinix and Cubot. Below is a look at some of the specs of the Samsung Galaxy J1 Mini.
