BlackBerry’s First Android Smartphone Will Retail as the BlackBerry Priv

Any fan of BlackBerry here? I know there are some but even if you are not, you will definitely be interested in what the company is about to do. For the last couple of weeks, we have been covering BlackBerry and its upcoming smartphone that will be running on Android and not the company’s OS. This will be the company’s first smartphone to use Android.

This yet-to-be announced device by BlackBerry has gone by the name BlackBerry Venice but it looks like that will not be its official name when it officially launches.

According to Evan Blass (evleaks) BlackBerry will be dropping the Venice branding as it renames the phone as BlackBerry Priv.

This name has also been confirmed by other sources including N4BB so it is the real deal. We expect the phone to be launched later this year in November as the company tries to cash in from holiday shoppers.

As for specs, the BlackBerry Priv is expected to have a 5.4 inch display with a QHD resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 808 processor coupled with 3GB of RAM. At the back sits an 18MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization.

Why Android?

BlackBerry has been seeing its market share shrink and the company hopes that the BlackBerry Priv can save it. There are still lots of BlackBerry fans out there but the growth of Android has offered them better deals so they have no reason to continue using BlackBerry. Am sure this phone will sell well if BlackBerry gets it right in terms of specs and pricing. This is all we are waiting at the moment and we will keep you informed on how that all turns out.
