What OnePlus’ OxygenOS is all About

oxygen Forum

A few days ago, OnePlus announced the availability of OxygenOS for its flagship Smartphone, the OnePlus One. OxygenOS is specifically made for the OnePlus One Smartphones that were Previously, powered by Cyanogen. Introducing another Android-based ROM OxygenOS will reduce the company’s dependence on Cyanogen as it focuses on it own in-house built OxygenOS. OxygenOS is based on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop and introduces a ton of cool features to OnePlus One devices.

Below are a few things you need to know about this new OS.

Highly Customizable

With OxygenOS, OnePlus One users can customize their notifications bas by removing, adding and rearranging the apps they want (or don’t want) to get notifications from. If users wish so, they can turn off some apps from the notifications bar.

Apart from the notifications bar, users are also free to customize other features on their phones when using OxygenOS. With the OS, OnePlus One users can customize their lock screens with the different wallpapers available. The OS also allows disabling of the capacitive touch screen buttons at the bottom of the screen.

 Off-Screen Gestures

OxygenOS introduces a cool new feature that can detect gestures even when the screen is off. Users can just double tap the screen when it is off to instantly wake it up. Drawing a circle on the screen when its off will instantly open the camera app. Drawing a V on an off screen will toggle the flashlight while pressing three fingers together starts the music.

Why ditch CyanogenMod?

When asked why the company ditched CyanogenMod, the company said that it wanted to work with something designed in-house. This is to ensure better localisation and faster updates. OnePlus will be able to work closely with users and hopefully implement the feedback given in time.

Commenting on OxygenOS, OnePlus One had this to say, “By doing so, we can offer better localization and faster updates. We can directly implement user feedback and make it easy for the OnePlus community to shape our ROM and create the OS that they want to use. Integration between hardware, software, and the cloud will become more seamless and unified for everyone using a OnePlus device.”

Lightweight OS

OxygenOS is meant to be lightweight for the best user experience. The OS has a clean and streamlined look and feel that makes it appealing to those who do not want the unnecessary bloat offered by some of the biggest industry players such as Samsung. With this minimalistic OS, OnePlus ensures better battery life and improved system efficiency.

How to get OxygenOS

To get OxygenOS, you will first need to have the OnePlus One Smartphone. You then need to head over to OnePlus’ website to download the OS and read the installation guide.
