Google Glass was not as successful as most people had expected and this forced Google to stop production of the glasses altogether. No matter what you thought about Google Glass, you will agree that this would have been a game changing gadget in the wearables sector if it had become successful.
Google Glass was just an experiment and according to Google X research lab head Astro Teller, it was a great decision to let a few people try it earlier before it was available for the masses. He said this last week at the SXSW festival.
Mr. Teller went ahead to say that “We allowed, and sometimes even encouraged, too much attention to the program.” He added that they should have made it clear to people that it was not a finished product if there was any chance of success.
I believe what Teller is saying but my opinion is that Google Glass is a great idea that has been poorly executed. It looked like a ‘cool’ idea but did not have a real life appeal. Maybe it was because it was not launched at the right time. Google should have refined it before bringing it to the market.
We will know more about Google Glass later on this year. I just hope they do not kill it completely.
