Evernote for Android Gets a New Design after a Major Update

Evernotes Android app is updated

Evernote for Android, one of my favourite note-taking apps, has received a major update that introduces a new design. The new design has borrowed heavily from Android’s material design according to Evernote designer Adam Glynn-Finnegan. Adam went further ahead to say, “The changes may seem subtle, but the thoughtful touches to these features make for a better Android experience overall.”

Evernote used “tactile elements like shadows and depth to act as cues for usability” when redesigning the app. The new app promises smooth screen transitions with each screen being an interaction of many independent levels. This combination of depth, layers and motion helps establish a sense of hierarchy and intent.

On why its iOS and Android apps are so different, Evernote said that it is keen to show the things that make the two platforms unique and different from each other.

Aside from the looks, the new app also brings some much needed functionality features. Android users can now add or remove quick note options by long pressing on a specific note. There is also a simplified navigation drawer that takes users directly to shortcuts. With this update, users can also rename and delete tabs much easier.

Aside from the above mentioned improvements, Evernote also says the update will bring performance improvements and bug fixes.
