The Infinix X551 is a new Smartphone in the Kenyan market selling exclusively on Jumia. The Smartphone was introduced in Kenya last week and follows the positive sales figures the Infinix X507 in Kenya. The Infinix X507 was very popular and it seems that Jumia (and Infinix) want this success to be replicated with the Infinix X551. But just because the Smartphone (Infinix X507) was successful does not mean that it’s worth your cash. Before you determine if the X551 is worth your money, you will need to look at its specs and determine if it is the device for you.

Design
The Infinix X551 is a phablet (Smartphone + tablet) with a minimalistic design. It looks almost like the Galaxy Note 4 in design and am left wondering if that is just a coincidence or Infinix decided to copy Samsung from the start. The phone measures 155 x 77 x 8.9 mm and weighs 172 grams.
Display
The Infinix X551 has a 5.5-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. This gives it a pixel density of 267 pixels per inch which is not quite bad. With this, be sure that you will be able to see the screen clearly at different angles.
RAM and Memory
The Infinix X551 has 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The 1GB of RAM is enough when running system files and normal apps but will not be as effective when running graphics intensive app. The 16GB of internal storage is really impressive and can still be expanded if you need more storage space.
CPU and OS
Powering the Infinix X551 is a 1.4GHs quad core processor from MediaTek. I have not been a fun of MediaTek’s processors for a long time and am yet to be convinced that they are good. I prefer having a snapdragon processor on my Smartphones. The OS on this Smartphone is Android 4.4 KitKat. No news of an update but am sure updating it by yourself will not cause any serious problems.
Camera Specs
The Infinix X551 has an 8MP camera with autofocus and a 2MP front facing camera. If you take many photos, this Smartphone is not the right one for you. The 8MP camera has HDR, panorama, touch focus feature and record Full HD videos. The 2MP camera on the other hand is jut pathetic. With Smartphone camera technology improving, I do not understand why we can still have such sensors. I was expecting a 5MP front facing camera.
Battery
The Infinix X551 has a huge 4000 mAh battery so you do not have to worry about running out of power during the day. This battery will easily keep the 5.5-inch display powered on for more than a day. The battery also support quick charging and you can get it fully charged in less than 20 minutes.
Price in Kenya
The Infinix X551 is retailing for Ksh 11,500.
