Top 5 things to Expect from Apple at its big Event Tonight

event invite

For those who have been following Apple closely, you will know that the company is holding its big event later on tonight (9PM Kenyan time). We have heard rumours that Apple will launch two iPhone 6 variants and two iWatch variants but the company has neither confirmed or denied anything. As we wait for event to officially begin, let’s look at the top 5 things that will happen at the event.

Security Comes First

With the recent hacking of celebrity iCloud accounts, Apple will definitely talk about security during the event in a move aimed at reassuring users of their security. Security is particularly important for Apple since it is believed to be working on adding NFC to the next iPhone. If security issues are not addressed, users will not feel secure when using payment services that integrate NFC. Apple Customers will also have to be reassured that the company has improved security features and covered the loopholes that led to the iCloud account hacks last week.

IPhone 6

This is probably what everyone expects from the event as previous iPhones have been launched at around the same time. Apple is expected to launch two iPhone 6 variants both with larger screens. One will have a 4.7-inch screen while the other will have a 5.5-inch screen. Rumours around the iPhone 6 have suggested that Apple may unveil both variants but the 4.7 inch iPhone 6 will be the only one available for purchase by the end of this month with the 5.5 inch variant hitting the market as late as December.

Sapphire Screen

Smartphone screens are very delicate to say the least and Apple knows this. That is why the company will unveil the iPhone 6 with a sapphire display to ensure no cracks when the screen is scratched or when the phone falls to the ground. Huawei beat Apple to this when it unveiled the Huawei Ascend P7 with a sapphire display. The challenge for Apple will be to source the sapphire display at affordable costs.

The iWatch

Apple is also expected to introduce an entirely new wearable device, the iWatch. With every other big player in the industry such as Samsung, Sony and LG already in the Smartwatch market; Apple will not want to be left behind in this game. The demand for smartwatches has been increasing and most people do not just use them to tell time but for health reasons to monitor their activities. The iWatch will do the same and all your activities will be synced with Apple’s health kit.

The iWatch is expected to have a curved OLED screen.

Near Field Communication (NFC)

Near Field Communication (NFC) is typically used for mobile payments made by bringing the phone in close proximity (or tapping) the phone to special hardware integrated with a vendor’s payment terminal. NFC has been around for a while now but has only been available on Google’s Android OS. Apple has for sometime tried to avoid integrating NFC to its devices but the company may be forced to have them due to demand.
