Meet the Xperia Z3 Family Made Up of the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 compact Smartphones Plus the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact

Xperia Z3 Family

We have all been waiting for Sony to unveil its latest flagship the Xperia Z3 and its smaller cousin the Xperia Z3 compact for a while now. The company finally took the stage at IFA yesterday to unveil what it has been working on.

The first device the company showcased was the Xperia Z3 Smartphone. This will be the company’s flagship for the next 6 months before it unveils another flagship. Sony announced that it will be unveiling a new flagship every 6 months to ensure its devices stay relevant on the market at all times.

The Xperia Z3 has a slim 7.3 mm thick body that is easy to hold. The design of the Z3 is not that exciting as it is similar to that of its predecessor, the Xperia Z2.  It also has a 5.2-inch Full HD screen (1080×1920). Under the frame sits a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor with either 16 or 32 GB of internal storage space. This can be expanded up to 138GB using a MicroSD card.

Just like all the other Smartphones under Sony’s Z line, the Xperia Z3 is waterproof and comes with an improved high-resolution 20.7MP camera.

Sony also unveiled a smaller version of the Z3 flagship, the Xperia Z3 Compact. With the Xperia Z3 compact, Sony clearly shows that small does not always mean less powerful. The Z3 compact packs some of the amazing specs seen on its bigger cousin to ensure you get the same experience even on a smaller form factor.

Down to the specs, the Xperia Z3 compact has a 4.6-inch screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280-pixel. This is a little bit bigger compared to the Xperia Z compact that has a 4.3-inch screen. Under the hood, the Z3 Compact has the same Quad core Snapdragon 801 processor that clocked at 2.5GHz. At the back still sits a 20.7 MP camera with Exmor RS sensor.

The RAM of the Xperia Z3 compact has been slightly reduced to 2GB with either 16 or 32GB of internal storage.

Commenting on the Xperia Z3, Sony had this to say, “At Sony Mobile, ‘flagship’ now means offering a choice to consumers of enjoying a large screen Xperia Z3 for immersive entertainment or a more compact, lighter Xperia Z3 Compact that doesn’t ask you to compromise on features.”

The Xperia Z3 Tablet compact

The Xperia Z3 Tablet compact is the third device under the Z3 Family that Sony introduced yesterday. This is a very practical tablet with an 8-inch Full HD (1920 x 1200 display). Under the frame the Z3 tablet compact has the same quad core 2.5GHz processor seen on both the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 compact Smartphones. This is coupled with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage space. The camera of the Z3 Compact tablet has been scaled down a bit and now is 8.1MP.

The battery capacities for these three devices are not that bad with the Xperia z3 having a 3,100mAh one, the Xperia Z3 Compact having a 2,600mAh and the Xperia Z3 tablet compact settling with a 4,500mAh battery. All these three devices will be running Android 4.4 KitKat straight out of the box. Prices have not been announced but availability will be from late September.
