The First Android One Smartphone to Be Unveiled Next Week

android one google io 2014

Have you guys heard of Android One? If you have not, go read about it here. Android One is a new series created by Google to include devices that will be similar to the Nexus devices but they will be way cheaper and of high quality. Google revealed the Android One project back in June saying, “the goal of the programme is to reach the next five billion users who don’t currently have a Smartphones.”

Since then, Google has been rather quiet about Android One. We are now getting information that the first Android One will be unveiled next month starting with India. This first Smartphone could be launched as early as next week according to the Economic Times.

It has also been revealed that the first Android One device will (with no surprise) have dual SIM capabilities, a 5MP back camera and a 1700 mAh battery. Under the hood, this Smartphone will have a quad-core processor and 1 GB or RAM. These are not bad for a device that is all about keeping the costs down.

The screen will be atleast 4 inches and the device will run Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. Micromax, Karbonn and Spice are the three Indian manufacturers that are ready to launch their Android One devices but it is still not clear which one will go first.

The price for most of the Android One Smartphones will be anything between $115 and $165 (Kshs. 10,200-Kshs. 15,000).
