Latest Android Platform Numbers: Jelly Bean Sees A Slight Loss But Still Maintains Top Position

Google has finally released the latest Android platform numbers for a 7 day period ending June 4, 2014. Google release these numbers every month with the aim of helping developers to choose the most popular Android version and therefore develop relevant apps that will see lots of downloads.

The latest numbers clearly show that Android 4.1-4.3 Jelly Bean is still in the lead controlling over 58.4% of the market share. This is a slight drop from last month when it had over 60.8% of the market share. When you break down the numbers further you will see that Android 4.1 has 29% market share, Android 4.2 has 19.1 market share and Android 4.3 has 10.3 market share.

The latest Android version, KitKat controls 13.6% market share. This is quite a big improvement in the right direction from last month when it had 8.5% market share. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich market share dropped from 13.4% last month to settle at 12.3%

Android 2.3 Gingerbread which has had a good run previously saw its market share drop from 16.2% last month to 14.9% this month. Android 2.2 Froyo on the other hand has a mere 0.8% market share. One Android version that is missing from the list is Android 3.X Honeycomb that has less than 0.1% market share.
