Smartwatches have been around for quite some time now but their adoption has only picked up pace the past few months. The market has seen small but significant growth thanks to the marketing efforts of Samsung and Peeble.

This status quo may be about to change especially in Kenya with the introduction of two new smartwatches to the market. The two smartwatches are the Xtouch Wave and Xtouch Xwatch 2. The Xtouch wave is the high-end one while the Xtouch Xwatch 2 is more of an entry level Smartwatch.

The Xtouch wave is water resistant, weighs 73g and has some impressive specs underneath. It is powered by a dual core Cortex A7 processor by MediaTek that cloaked at 1.2GHz. This is quite impressive I can say considering the Gear 2 from Samsung has a 1GHz processor. This means that your applications will run smoothly and faster. A 3MP camera is included for taking photos and videos.

In addition to displaying all your important notifications, the Xtouch wave is also able to make phone calls. This Smartwatch operates independently from your Smartphone and has a micro-SIM card slot to help with this. It has 4GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 32GB using a microSD card.

The Xtouch Wave runs on Android 4.2 and comes preloaded with some popular apps such as Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp just to name a few.

The Xtouch Xwatch 2 on the other hand weighs 49g and will be powered a Mediatek MTK6252 processor with 32MB of NAND Flash memory space expandable up to 32GB.  The screen size is 1.54 inches and has a resolution of 240×240p. It is powered by Xtouch’s own proprietary software with a 350mAh lithium battery underneath.

For pricing, the Xtouch Wave will retail at approximately Kshs. 22,000 while the Xtouch Xwatch goes for Kshs. 8,000.
