Samsung introduced the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches and we all thought that was all we could see from the tech giant in terms of wearables. Personally, I thought Samsung unveiled these two smartwatches early to pave way for their next flagship, the Galaxy S5. I was correct in some way as the company was paving way for the Galaxy S5 that was unveiled late last night. As for wearables, I was obviously surprised with the Gear fit, a fitness tracker like no other.
The Gear fit is a fully-fledged fitness tracker with a 1.48-inch curved OLED display with a resolution of 432 x 128. According to Samsung, this fitness tracker blends style, fitness and convenience to provide ultimate connectivity for the active mobile consumer.
“Samsung understands that the next generation of wearable mobile solutions must directly reflect of the diverse interests and needs of consumers,” said JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Division, Samsung Electronics. “In response, our Gear product portfolio continues to expand with unique devices for a wide range of lifestyles, including the new Gear Fit designed to help those consumers striving to live more fit and active lives without sacrificing their own personal style or their ability to stay connected on the go.”
The Gear fit is similar to the Galaxy S5 in a number of ways; it has a heart sensor, a pedometer and a gyroscope. I addition to this, the Gear fit is waterproof and has a 210mAh battery that can last for up to 4 days. To take full advantage of the Gear fit, you will need a compatible Samsung Smartphone.
The Gear fit will be available globally as from April.
