The Infinix Hot 3 is the latest entry level smartphone launched in Kenya by the company that seems to understand the entry level market segment very well. The phone was officially launched in the country about a week ago and takes over from the Infinix Hot 2 which was launched back in September 2015. The Hot 2 was the first Android One smartphone in the country but did not offer the best experience to consumers and that is one of the main reasons why the Hot 3 isn’t in the Android One program.

The Infinix Hot 2 is currently retailing at Ksh 7,549 on Kilimall while the Hot 3 is available at Ksh 7,899. With such a small price difference, you may be wondering which variant to pick. Design and display
As you can see from the table above, the Infinix Hot 3 borrows a lot from the Hot 2. Their designs are quite different and I like that of the Hot 3 more than that of the Hot 2. The Hot 3 feels more comfortable to hold on the hand and looks the part too. As for size, the Hot 3 is slightly bigger with a 5.5 inch display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. This gives a pixel density of 245 ppi. The Hot 2 on the other hand has a slightly smaller 5 inch display with the same resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and this gives a slightly higher pixel density of 293 ppi. Both devices have IPS LCD displays.
Performance
For performance, the Hot 2 and Hot 3 are on the same level. They are both powered by 1.3 GHz Quad Core MediaTek MT6580 processors. These are paired with 1GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage space expandable to 32GB using microSD cards. For GPU, both the Hot 2 and Hot 3 have Mali-400 MP to handle graphics.
Camera Specs
Both the Infinix Hot 2 and Hot 3 have 8MP units at the back and 2MP units in front. The back cameras are able to shoot Full HD videos (1080p) at 30fps. The front facing camera is where you can see some differences between the Hot 2 and Hot 3 as the 2MP unit on the Hot 3 is supported by flash and the one on the Hot 2 isn’t.
Battery
The Infinix Hot 2 has a smaller 2200 mAh battery while the Hot 3 has a 3000 mAh battery. This is quite a big difference and at least it addresses one of the main issues I had with the Hot 2. At least the 3000 mAh battery can get you through the whole day without having to charge it.
Price
There is a small difference in price between the Hot 2 and Hot 3. With the Hot 3 retailing at Ksh 7,899 while the Hot 2 at Ksh 7,549, you only get a difference of Ksh 350. This makes sense as you may have seen from the specs listed above, the Hot 2 and Hot 3 are pretty much one and the same device.
