Five Reasons Why You Should Be Excited About Windows 10

On Wednesday, Microsoft held a special event to talk about Windows 10 and how it will run across different devices including Smartphones, PCs and tablets. Windows 10 was first introduced in September last year and was available as a technical preview. On Wednesday, Microsoft discussed everything from Cortana for desktop to the Continuum Mode.

Below are five reasons why you should be excited about Windows 10.

It’s free!

Yes, you read that right, Windows 10 is free. This came as a surprise for most people when Microsoft revealed t it. According to Microsoft, Windows 10 will be free to Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 users. This is a good move for Microsoft and will hopefully get people to continue using its operating system.

Cortana for Desktop

Microsoft’s voice assistant which has only been available on Windows Phone is finally available on PCs and tablets. Just like Cortana on the phone, the desktop version will learn your preference over time to help improve your experiences by giving you relevant recommendations. Cortana for desktop is a full-fledged voice-assistant  for desktops  that can be activated by saying “Hey Cortana”. You can also interact with Cortana by typing on the search button.

Continuum Mode

Windows 10 Continuum Mode is specifically made for those using 2-in-1 computers. This feature allows you to switch from desktop to tablet mode. For example, if you are working on your hybrid computer and you plug out the keyboard, the device will automatically detect this and will present you with the option for on-screen keyboard, allowing the device to work as a tablet.

Spartan web-browser

Spartan is a new web browser for Windows 10 designed to replace Internet Explorer. Spartan offers a cleaner look and comes with Cortana integration that enables the display of weather, flight details and other information right on the display.  The browser also lets users annotate by Keyboard or pen directly on the web page and then share that with their friends. Spartan has a reading mode that offers distraction free layout for a better reading experience on and offline.

 HoloLens and Windows Holographic

Windows 10 stands out as being the first holographic computing platform. With various APIs, developers can create real life holographic experiences. The HoloLens headset is Microsoft’s first holographic computer that does not need to be connected to the PC for it to work.  The HoloLens will be able to beam holograms all over the world around you. The HoloLens will be able to run Windows 10 apps.
