The wait is finally over as CCK and Cofek have finally agreed on the date for the migration from analog TV to digital TV. The switch off date will be on or after September 15, 2013, the migration had to be put off after Cofek moved to court to block it. The agreement between CCK and Cofek was arrived at when the two parties met at the Serena Hotel last Thursday (February 14, 2013).

Both CCK and Cofek agreed on a number of issues including pricing of the Set Top boxes, Quality of the signal, public awareness and the switch off date.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) official switch off deadline is set for June 17, 2015 and it looks like Kenya is currently on the right track with this new set switch off date.

In the agreement, the two parties also agreed that the number of licensed vendors of the Set Top boxes will be increased to the highest possible number from the current 22. Treasury import, subsidies and VAT waivers will also be worked on and CCK will ensure consumers are well informed about matter relating to the digital migration in a cost effective way.
